Kenya confirms 23 new cases

Kenya has confirmed 23 new cases of Covid-19, raising the total to 672.

The CAS said 22 are Kenyans while the other one is a foreigner from Burundi.

Health CAS Rashid Aman said on Sunday during the briefings that 1,056 samples  were screened in the last 24 hours., bringing the total 32, 097

The samples were collected  from the people in the quarantine facilities and the contact persons.

The CAS said that two more patients lost their lives in Mombasa, bringing the number of deaths to 32.

At the same time, the government said that 32 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours.

This is the highest number of people to be discharged since the pandemic was confirmed in the country on March 13, 2020.

Mombasa county had 12 cases, six in Mandera, four in Nairobi and Kajiado had one case.

Aman said that 20 cases were picked by the surveillance team while the other three were picked from the mandatory quarantine facilities.

The four cases in Nairobi were from Umoja (2) and one each from Komarock and Pipeline.

In Mombasa, eight patients were from Mvita while Kisauni and Likoni had two patients each.

The new cases are ranged between 1-80 years. Also, 13 patients are males while 11 are females.

During the briefings, the CAS called upon Kenyans to continue observing the measures set by the government in order to flatten the curve.

Aman added that the observation from other countries shows that behavioral factors in addition to other interventions plays a big role in slowing down the infection.

He said Kenyans should continue washing their hands, proper wearing of face masks, social distancing and stay at homes.
